YOU published three of my pictures of Princess Mary’s visit to Oxford to present awards to members of the Women’s Land Army in 1918 (Memory Lane, February 1), but there are others that your readers might like to see.
I acquired the photographs, original and unpublished on two album pages, on eBay.
My research has located a six-minute video on YouTube called ‘Recruiting March of the Oxfordshire Women’s Land Army’, uploaded by David Hopkins.
The film starts with the rally in St Giles, followed by the procession in Cornmarket Street and Broad Street and Mr Prothero MP, President of the Board of Agriculture, addressing the workers.
The video ends with Princess Mary presenting awards and badges in Trinity College gardens.
This includes an amusing incident of one of the dignitaries being pulled into place in a bath chair.
