THE literacy of Oxfordshire’s children has been questioned recently, but one adult should be feeling a little red-faced today.
A road marking warning drivers not to park outside Wolvercote Primary School has been painted to read “Schoul”.
Six-year-old Daniel Cox, who lives in Rosamund Road, said: “I can spell ‘school’ better than that.”
His mother Annalie, who took the picture above of Daniel and his sister Sarah, 11, with the sign, added: “How embarrassing.
“I certainly hope that by the time my children leave this school they will be able to spell such basic words.”
Another parent said: “It wouldn’t be a bad idea if they came back here for a few lessons.”
The road was dug up two months ago for work but Oxfordshire County Council said it did not know by which company.
Council spokesman Owen Morton said there were no immediate plans to repaint the blunder.
He said it would be looked at “in future highway maintenance work in the area.”
