Bookworms bring heroes to life

Book lovers dressed up as their favourite literary characters to celebrate National Book Week.

Pupils at the village primary school in Stonesfield, near Witney, took in their favourite books to accompany their costumes and tried their hands at redesigning front covers.

Parents were invited to come in and read their own favourite children's tales.

Headteacher Susie Bagnall, who dressed as the comic charcter from Where's Wally?, said Harry Potter had proved the most popular choice among the youngsters, with Frodo Baggins running a close second. She added: "There was a real range of characters. It was also very encouraging that the children enjoyed the literary activities so much, and showed such huge enthusiasm for reading.

"There were lots of characters from films, which shows how seeing characters on screen can add motivation for reading."
