A van driver ran for safety before his vehicle burst into flames.
The light goods vehicle caught fire on the southbound carriageway of the A41 between the Park and Ride roundabout and junction 9 of the M40.
The driver had smelt burning and parked the van before fleeing the vehicle and calling the fire brigade.
Crews from Bicester Fire Station arrived to tackle the fire which broke out just after 9pm last night (April 12).
Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said it was extinguished using a hose reel and by two firefighters using breathing apparatus.
"The driver did the right thing after he smelt burning by parking in a safe position and getting himself out safely before calling us," the said.
The road was closed for an hour while fire crews dealt with the fire.
