A DISTRICT council is encouraging people to use eco-friendly face masks or to dispose of them properly.
West Oxfordshire District Council said in a tweet yesterday that people should try and ensure their masks and other PPE are reusable.
It said: "Please try and ensure your masks and other PPE are sustainable by using washable materials and/or making your own.
POLL: What do you think about new face mask rules?
"If you have no choice, dispose of it responsibly in a general waste bin. Do not put it in a recycling bin."
By law, people must wear face coverings on public transport. From Friday, they must be worn while in shops and supermarkets too and measures can be taken if people do not comply.
