THERE are now 857 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Oxfordshire but no new deaths at the county’s hospital have been recorded in the latest figures.

The updated positive tests are correct as of 9am todat and are up 73 on the previous day, when there were 784 cases in the county.

In the UK as a whole 290,720 people have been tested for Covid-19, of which 88,621 tested positive.

As of 5pm on Sunday, of those hospitalised in the UK who tested positive for coronavirus, 11,329 have died.

The death toll in Oxfordshire remains at 67, following 12 new deaths at the county's hospitals announced on Saturday and Sunday.

In today's briefing by Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab, he said the lockdown measures were slowing the spread of the virus but the UK was 'still going through the peak' of infection.

He said a meeting of scientific advisers would take place to review evidence about the current lockdown restrictions this week, but added: "We don't expect to make any changes to the measures currently in place at that point and we won't until we're confident, as confident as we realistically can be, that any such changes can be safely made."

Globally there are now more than 1.85 million cases confirmed, with the most positive tests continuing to be in the US.

The country currently has more than 550,000 cases of Covid-19.

Italy has the most deaths with just under 20,000, with Spain closely behind with a death toll of 17,500.

These figures are collated by Johns Hopkins University, which has been tracking cases since January via an online map.
