A MOTORIST had a lucky escape yesterday evening after discovering his van was on fire while driving.
Crews from Bicester Fire Station and Kidlington were called just before 7pm to a country road near Bicester Golf Club.

They found the van in flames and crews wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire while the road was closed.
The man had smelt smoke while driving along and stopped to find the rear of the van already engulfed in flames.

Sharing images of the burned-out van on social media, the fire service said the fire was caused by a battery which had 'shorted out' while being transported.
The service also confirmed the driver was not injured.
