THUNDERSTORMS are expected to break up the on-going heatwave in Oxford today.
The MetOffice is predicting from 2pm much of the South East will be at risk of 'slow-moving thundery down pours'.
A yellow weather warning is in place for Oxfordshire until midnight tonight with temperatures today expected to reach 25C.
Aside from the potential thunderstorms, the hot weather is due to continue for some time.
The Met Office say the area around Oxford can expect dry, hot weather for the next few weeks, with a risk of occasional, isolated showers breaking out.
Temperatures are expected to be in the mid to high 20s, while humidity is also likely to increase.
That could cause the occasional thunderstorm, but in the main, it will be more of the same.
Tomorrow's the last day of school for some and it looks like temps will rise next week. There's some uncertainty with how hot it will get but it could be the hottest spell of the year so far, especially for the southeast pic.twitter.com/mDUJ2taCMu

Unseasonably hot conditions are expected until at least the end of the month and into early August, though long-range forecasts are not always fully accurate.
A spokesperson for the Met Office added that ‘very, very high temperatures’ are possible over the next few weeks, as some Oxfordshire residents long for rain and cooler conditions that are unlikely to be forthcoming.
Good morning, Luke here to answer all of your weather-related questions! The SE will stay largely dry initially, but increasing heat will trigger hit-and-miss thunderstorms later, whilst rain in the NW will push into south Wales and the Midlands: https://t.co/jtrhUzUBdR ^Luke pic.twitter.com/TL7XzSpMMM

Despite today's weather warning it will be warm and humid at first across Oxford, before the potential for downpours this afternoon.
Over the weekend, further isolated showers are possible but very warm, sunny spells are expected to turn increasingly hot and humid.
Sun is expected for the next five days, with temperatures around the mid to upper 20s.
