A GREEK takeaway business is set to move into Oxford’s historic Covered Market.
The Souvlaki Brothers – a local independent business serving Greek food – has taken on the lease of a vacant unit and has applied for planning permission.
The firm said the unit – previously used by Fasta Pasta – was currently in a ‘state of disrepair’ and needed refurbishment to bring it back to its ‘former glory’.
Over the past two years The Souvlaki Brothers has traded as a catering business around Oxfordshire and regularly appeared at markets and street fairs.
In submitting the plans, the company said: “ It will provide a truly unique shopping experience within Oxford, adding to the diversity and vibrancy of the Covered Market’s retail footprint.
“The usage will complement existing food businesses within the Covered Market, without crossing over or directly competing with product lines, and through our loyal local customer base, we expect to contribute positively to footfall.”
“Taking on the lease is a major milestone in the continued growth of our company, enabling us to continue our current popular business lines, whilst expanding our offering to provide a specialist and diverse Greek food retail option, unique within Oxford.”
The plans would see a new extraction system and full refurbishment.
A decision will be made by February 22.
