GRITTERS will once again be out on the county's roads as the temperatures drop to below freezing.
A weather warning for icy conditions has been put in place until tomorrow morning.
Thames Valley Police has been responding to many incidents throughout the day and has urged people not to travel 'unless absolutely necessary.'
In a statement the force said: "Following heavy snowfall across the Thames Valley overnight, members of the public are being advised not to travel unless absolutely necessary.
"A number of motorists are currently stranded in their vehicles on the M40 motorway, the A34 in Oxfordshire and on the A5 in Milton Keynes.
"Officers are working closely with partner agencies to arrange for roads to be ploughed to allow thoses stranded to be reached by emergency services.
"Many more roads are blocked and have been affected by snow."
Chief inspector Henry Parsons, of the joint operations unit for road policing, added: "The message to motorists is do not travel today unless it is absolutely necessary.
"Do not put your life and the lives of others at risk.
"Many of the roads in the Thames Valley have been blocked and, as temperatures plummet, will become extremely icy and dangerous.
"Keep up to date with the weather forecasts and advice over the next few days and ensure you can safely complete journeys and, when it is safe to drive, ensure you drive in accordance with the road conditions."
Meanwhile, Oxford Bus Company had announced all of its services were cancelled due to the treacherous conditions on the roads.
Due to unsafe road conditions, all services have been suspended until further notice. We hope to be back on the road as soon as possible. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Stagecoach Oxford also announced it had suspended all services.
As of 2.30pm some services had resumed including the city2, city5 and city6 buses but on a limited basis.
Oxford Tube services to and from London will remain suspended until 4am tomorrow the firm said.
Major roads across the county have also been hit by severe disruption with many abandoning their cars in the deluge.
The A34 between Milton and Chilton was shut for most of the morning as drivers gave up and left their cars in the road.
Part of the M40 through Oxfordshire was also closed with a number of broken down vehicles stuck in the snow.
Both roads have since re-opened.

South Central Ambulance Service has also warned patients needing emergency treatment to expect delays because of the snow.
Snow is falling, all around us, well across our counties of Berkshire,Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire. Our amazing staff and volunteers are still out looking after our patients but maybe delayed in getting to you due to the difficult conditions to make sure they get to you safely

Oxfordshire County Council said that all 25 of its gritters had been working through the night and into today to grit all A and B-roads and some C-roads.
Paul Wilson, the council's winter operations manager, said: "Gritting and snowploughing helps keep the main roads clear but as ever we would ask people to drive very carefully in these winter conditions.”
Meanwhile, the Helen and Douglas Santa run, which normally sees hundreds of people dressed in red pound the streets of the city has been cancelled.

Train services are still running although there are some delays. Operaters are advising people to check before they travel.
Great Western Railway said that no service will run between Oxford and Worcester Shrub Hill while Cross Country said services between Oxford and Reading had been cancelled because of a points failure.
Chiltern Railways has said there may also be some disruption on Monday morning because of today's delays.
National Rail said in a statement "Heavy snow is causing disruption to routes in the Cotswolds today.
"The following services are currently affected: Oxford and Worcester.
"The service on the North Cotswolds line is currently suspended. Because of the weather conditions also affecting the road network, there is no replacement road transport.
"Customers are advised to make alternative arrangements where possible."
Tickets acceptance is in place with the following operators:
Worcester and Birmingham with West Midlands Trains
Birmingham and Reading with CrossCountry
Birmingham and London Marylebone with Chiltern Railways
Elsewhere, sites and attractions have also shut their doors under the blanket of snow.
A Blenheim Palace spokesperson said in a statement: "Due to the severe weather we have had to close the Palace today.
"The Park and East Courtyard will remain open. Apolagies for any inconvenience.
"Please take care on the roads and paths."
The 'Christmas at Blenheim trail' scheduled for tonight has also been cancelled with ticket holder being offered alternative dates.
Oxford Brookes University has also shut its doors and said that because of the poor conditions all of its university buildings will be shut until at least Tuesday.
Brewery tours have also been cancelled at Hook Norton Brewery.
A statement from the brewery read: "Morning - Due to the combination of snow and Cotswold lanes we are having to cancel our brewery tours today.
"If you have booked, please contact us to re-arrange - stay safe folks."
The Alzheimer's Society has cancelled a carol concert due to take place at Christ Church Cathedral from 6.30pm this evening.
Siobhan Nugent, the charity's interim head of regional fundraising, said: “The event has been cancelled due to health and safety concerns caused by the snow.
"Following consultation with the event organisers and guidance from the Met Office, it was determined that the weather conditions would pose a risk to those attending. We are therefore asking supporters not to travel to the venue.
"On behalf of Alzheimer’s Society I would like to apologise for the cancellation."
Ticket holders can call the charity tomorrow on 0330 333 0804 or email customercare@alzheimers.org.uk for more information.
Pub goers can still enjoy a tipple at Headington Quarry's Masons Arms meanwhile with the pub tweeting that revellers are welcome for a wintry pint.
