BRAVE animal lovers whooshed through the clouds to raise money for a rehoming centre.

Blue Cross hosted a sponsored bungee jump on Saturday at Alvescot Road Recreation Ground in Carterton, to boost cash for its Burford centre.

Rebecca Duerden, who lives in Witney, took the plunge to pay back the charity after it provided her with two rescue dogs to play with when she was poorly.

The 24-year-old said: "It was a real height, about 160 foot. It was amazing but so scary, I was shaking up there just trying to have a blank mind.

"My mum adopted a couple of dogs for me when I was a child and I was really close to them growing up. I was in hospital a lot having operations for bowel issues and wanted a puppy for when I came out. We went to the Blue Cross and I fell in love with them."

Staffordshire Terrier Jade and mongrel Jack have since passed away, but the store manager's passion for animals lived on and she went on to do an animal care course at college.

The Madley Park resident added: "It was definitely my way of giving something back and trying to help other pets, which are a passion of mine."

Burford's rehoming centre in Shilton Road looks after dogs, cats, rabbits, small animals and horses while they wait for loving new homes.

Tina Burdett, Blue Cross community fundraiser, said the bungee jump would help to pay for the costs of caring for and feeding the animals while they are between homes.
