A pollster has said so-called "Project Fear" tactics of pro-European Union campaigners are not working.

Wolfgang Munchau, director of Oxford-based EuroIntelligence, wrote on Twitter yesterday that this claim was backed up by the latest opinions polls.

They show the public remains split on Britain's EU membership despite a series of warnings about the economic turmoil that could be caused by so-called Brexit.

But Mr Munchau said: "The numbers are telling us that the outcome remains wide open."

The public will go to the polls on June 23 for the EU referendum.
