THIEVES lured a 79-year-old woman with the promise of returning a stolen watch then made off with her cash.

Thames Valley Police said the one of the two men met the woman in Fane Drive, Berinsfield, on Wednesday at about 6.30pm.

He had arranged to return a watch stolen a year ago. But after taking money from her and walking along the street to meet the second man they both ran off together without giving the watch back.

Investigating officer PC Andy Whitaker, of Didcot Police Station said the theft had been a "distressing" ordeal for the woman.

He added: “I would ask anyone who knows about this or saw two men on Fane Drive or nearby to contact police.

“I would also advise anyone who is approached with information about stolen items to contact the police.”

The first offender was described as white, 5ft 9ins tall, in his twenties and slim. He was clean shaven with dark curly hair.

There was no description of the second male offender.

Those with information should call 101.
