A street in Oxford city centre was closed this morning after a child left his school kit on a bus and it was treated as a suspicious package.
Speedwell Street was closed off, and Oxford Bus Company services were diverted via Thames Street.
Thames Valley Police spokeswoman Anne Tugwell said seven Thames Valley Police officers sealed off the area while checks were made but the bomb squad was not called.
The road was reopened once it was established that the package was not suspicious.
Ms Tugwell said: "We were called shortly after 9am after what was believed to be a suspicious package was found on a bus.
"The bus was evacuated and Speedwell Street closed temporarily.
"The package was found to be a bag which had been left on the bus, and did not contain anything suspicious - it was school kit."
A Stagecoach bus driver, who asked not to be named, said: "Police were called after a package was found on a bus."
