WOMEN united in East Oxford to take a stand against female genital mutilation (FGM) and support those at risk in the county.
Charity Oxford Against Cutting hosted its event to raise awareness of the practice, which involves the cutting or removal of female genital organs for non-medical reasons.
The event on Saturday came just weeks after the charity launched The Rose Community, which acts as a safe space for survivors of FGM and vulnerable girls from practising cultures.
Media and advocacy adviser for Oxford Against Cutting Dianne Regisford said: “We all have a role to play in the eradication of a harmful cultural practice that is alive and around in Oxfordshire.
“This can be a time when young girls are taken back home to be cut.
“It’s important that we are all aware that we can do something.”
Women gathered at the East Oxford Community Centre, in Princes Street, to share their stories about FGM.
