WHEN looking for the world’s most romantic getaway thoughts could turn to Paris, New York or even a quiet moonlit beach in the Tropics.
But loved-up couples wanting the most passionate place on the planet may have to look no further than the depths of the West Oxfordshire countryside.
Eynsham Hall has found itself up against the likes of luxury hotels in the Big Apple and Portugal to be crowned the most romantic venue in the world.
Its well-heeled patrons include David and Samantha Cameron, who have been known to frequent the Jacobian mansion for weekend Conservative party events and official engagements.
And the PM and Witney MP was full of praise for the wedding venue’s nomination as Most Prestigious Romantic Venue in the Prestigious Star Awards, an industry competition which searches for the finest settings across the globe.
Mr Cameron said: “Set in idyllic grounds, Eynsham Hall is a stunning venue and is an ideal choice for any couple looking for a special weekend away.
“It is great to see West Oxfordshire businesses once again leading the way, with Eynsham Hall taking its place alongside venues across the world.”
And Matt Hemming and Laura Wilkinson from Ascott-under-Wychwood, got married at Eynsham Hall in 2013 after winning the Oxford Mail’s Win your Wedding competition.
The mansion, surrounded by 3,000 acres of beautiful West Oxfordshire countryside, is one of only two successful nominations from Great Britain, the other being Hever Castle in Kent.
Eynsham Hall, which has a health club and acts as a wedding venue and conference centre, is one of 10 shortlisted venues, including the Shangri-La in the Maldives, the Regina Hotel in Baglioni and the desert resort of Qasr Al Sarab, which is in the United Arab Emirates.
The shortlist was handpicked by a panel of top industry professionals and the public can now vote for their favourite venue online.
If it wins, Eynsham Hall will be presented with a coveted Prestigious Star at an awards ceremony in September.
Christof and Ffreur Masheder had their reception at the venue in September 2014.
Mrs Masheder, a former Army Officer from Headington, said: “I’m not surprised, it was very romantic for us.
“It was an amazing day, the building and the gardens are astoundingly beautiful.
“The whole place is beautiful which made for great pictures.”
Kieran Watts and his girlfriend Amy Thomas, both 18 and from Witney, work at Eynsham Hall as a barman and waitress.
The couple said they weren’t surprised the venue has been nominated for the award.
Mr Watts said: “It’s a lovely place, especially in the summer with all the grounds and gardens.”
