A CAR on the back of a car transporter caught fire on the A415 between Marcham and Abingdon this morning, fire crews said.
The road was closed as fire fighters put out the blaze, but has now reopened.
Thames Valley Police spokeswoman Charlotte Redman said they were called out to the incident at 11.14am.
She added: “The fire service was in attendance and the road has now been reopened.”
Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service area manager Matt Carlisle said firefighters were initially called at 11.10am to a car on fire on the back of a transporter.
They sent fire engines from Abingdon and Rewley Road in Oxford and crews needed to wear breathing apparatus as they tackled the flames.
Stagecoach earlier tweeted: “Due to an incident the A415 is closed in both directions between Marcham and Abingdon.”
They added that busses would divert through Shippon and that there were delays on 31 and X30.
