THE teenage owner of a rare car found abandoned and burnt out has received offers of a replacement vehicle from as far afield as Scotland.

Jamie Field’s Mini Metro was stolen overnight on Saturday and found ruined the following morning.

The jet black car, one of only 1,000 made, was found by police in Bernwood Forest, near Oakley, on the Oxfordshire-Buckinghamshire border.

Mr Field, 18, had the car for two years before it was taken from outside his home in Mark Road, Headington.

But after reading his story on oxfordmail.co.uk, Sylvia Sellman, from Cumnock, East Ayrshire, has offered a replacement.

She said: “My heart went out to him, bless him. To be such a car enthusiast at 18 years old, it’s lovely. I felt so sorry for the lad."

A fellow Mini enthusiast, she said: “They are going up in value all the time. Years ago you were laughed at for getting a Metro, not any more”

She estimated the car was worth £1,500 and said she was willing to drive to England to meet Jamie to hand over the car.

Mr Field’s mother Tanya thanked Ms Sellman and said: “That’s really lovely, so sweet of her."

She said police were getting anonymous tip-offs after Jamie’s story appeared in Tuesday’s Oxford Mail.

“The police have told us someone called them and said they saw the car in St Clement’s at 6am on the Sunday. Somebody knows something about who took it.”
