OXFORD’s most famous detective will be back in the city tomorrow as filming starts for the third series of Endeavour.
Fans of the series will hope to catch a glimpse of cast members including Shaun Evans, who plays the young Detective Constable Morse, when scenes are shot in Market Street.
But they will have to wait a while longer to find out the fate of the detective, who ended season two inside a prison cell, with no release date set for the new episodes.
Producer Tom Mullens said: “It’s great to be back in Oxford to film the third series of Endeavour. We always receive a really warm welcome here.”
Jack Laskey, Sean Rigby, Anton Lesser and James Bradshaw will all return to their roles, as will Abigail Thaw who plays fictional Oxford Mail editor Dorothea Frazil.
Writer Russell Lewis said: “Our next quartet of mysteries will take the audience on a psychedelic summer of love fairground ride.”
Endeavour began as a feature-length special in 2012, which was so successful it led to two series being commissioned.
The series follows Morse in his early career in Oxford in the 1960s. The character was created by Oxford author Colin Dexter and played by John Thaw in the original Inspector Morse.
