DANCERS are hoping they have jigged their way into the Guinness World Record Books following a pub record attempt.

A total of 38 people performed an Irish jig for five minutes at O’Neill’s in George Street, Oxford, on Thursday at 8pm.

The pub chain is aiming to break the world record for the most people Irish dancing at one time, which stands at 10,036, with 49 pubs taking part across the country.

Oxford pub manager Eamon O’Sullivan, pictured with students from d’Overbroeck’s International College who were joining the attempt, said: “We don’t know the result yet because there are so many figures to come in. I think we have a very good chance of breaking it.”

The jig was one of a number of activities the pub held last week ahead of St Patrick’s Day tomorrow which raised more than £1,000 for East Oxford charity Helen and Douglas House.
