NOW that the snow has gone, hundreds of snowdrops are in full bloom at Oxford Botanic Garden to herald the first signs of spring.

Curators at the Oxford University garden, off High Street, say they are particularly pleased with this year’s crop, which wasn’t troubled by the frosty weather.

Curator Tom Price said the snowdrops were flourishing in the walled garden area and attracting lots of positive comments.

He said: “The snowdrops are pretty hardy bulbs and are putting on a better display than ever this year.

“They are certainly one of the first signs of spring and our crocuses and winter aconites are also doing well.”

Celina Barroca, 26, above, from Oxford, who started working at the garden last year, said: “The snowdrops are very popular.”
