RUNNERS are getting ready to work up a sweat in Oxford to help elderly people keep warm.

Age UK is organising a Wrap Up and Run 10k event in Cutteslowe Park, North Oxford, in March.

The event raises funds for the charity’s Spread the Warmth campaign, which aims to make winter warmer for thousands of people in later life.

Mum-of-three Laura Freeth, 48, from Abingdon, is an administrator at Age UK Oxfordshire’s office in the town. She and fellow staff members Natalie Allred, Kerry Bateman, Salma Sultana, Parm Lyons and Brenda Longmuir are now training for the run, on Sunday, March 3.

Mrs Freeth said: “I haven’t done any running for years, so I have been around Abingdon and I have managed about 5k so far.”
