Police hunt Asbo prostitute

Police are hunting a drug-addicted prostitute after she failed to attend court.
Amy Painton was issued with an interim antisocial behaviour order at Oxford Magistrates' Court on Monday last week.
The order, sought by Oxford City Council, banned her from 39 council-owned flats across the city.
Magistrates heard Painton befriended vulnerable tenants living in temporary accommodation reserved for the homeless. She then moved in and used the flats for prostitution and drug-taking.
Painton was due back in court on Friday to be served with a full Asbo, but she failed to appear - allegedly a breach of the interim order.
Pc Jim Abram, of Thames Valley Police, told the Oxford Mail officers were actively seeking to find the 28-year-old.
He said: "We're looking for her - patrols are out."
Painton's 39 mini-brothels stretched from Blackbird Leys to Summertown, Marston and Iffley Road. Residents living near the flats welcomed the ban, after suffering problems linked to her activities.
If Painton breaches her Asbo, which lasts two years, she could be jailed for up to five years.
Oxford City Council declined to comment on the alleged breach.

I have to say I agree with Mark. If you take away the business then these girls wouldn't be doing this. I wonder why men do go to girls who clearly have problems with drugs. Aren't they the ones we should be putting into question? Maybe it's the men that should be getting the ASBO's...

The government knows the answer to these problems, why not give a mandatory 3 month rehab sentence in a secure location for anyone caught taking class A drugs? If they end up back on it, make it 6 months next time & so on. Somewhere that they are FORCED to go cold turkey, it's quite simple & 3 months later the users would be the most grateful of all, no criminal record needs to be created to give them a better chance after recovery, the same thing should be done to any women caught on the streets selling themselves, I think this government knows ways to sort out all of these social problems but why would they if there is no short term financial benefit to them? Our government benefits financially from the sale of drugs, no matter what anyone says, otherwise how would drugs get into the country in the first place? Its easily solved if you put the right measures in place. The said 3 month rehab programme, life sentences for class A traffickers & dealers, let's get whores like this off the streets once & for all & start cleaning the streets of Britain!

Yes it may take her many years to recover but nobody asked her to play around with the crap in the first place.

Alan, my point is this. Historically there have always been heroin/opium users from the middle classes ('hippycrites') who do indeed waffle on about choices, owning their own body etc. But that is not what we are talking about! Have you ever met someone like Amy Paintin? I doubt you have, because of your lack of understanding of the different issues she faces to these militant/libertarian

When you are in the grips of an addiction to heroin and/or crack cocaine, you don't sit around pondering lifes big questions, coming up with theories about your rights over your own body! It's all a lot darker and much more depressing than that. I wish you could make the distinction between two very different kinds of people. Lumping all drug users into a 'one size fits all' category is dangerous and doesn't help anyone.

Every soul deserves sympathy, and society needs to help the disadvantaged, and the vulnerable. We need dug addiction programmes that are humane and that have been demonstrated scientifically and empirically to work with a high success rate.
Hopefully such things exist, or maybe one day they will be developed. In the meantime it's a matter of damage control, and simply trying to stop the harm that's already been done, from spilling out across the community and affecting and damaging other families and neighborhoods. Action needs to be compassionate but effective. ASBOs are one way of working with people to try to firmly reduce the damage done to the community, which would only in turn produce more problem families, more troubled individuals, and new generations of damaged people.

Status Quo (supported by Luke White) @ the New Theatre
Swaying back and forth in unison to the riffs bouncing off their guitars, you know what to expect with Status Quo. Even if they have become a bit overused in the past 40 years, cliches have a golden core. For many bands, repeatedly playing their successful songs becomes a kind of purgatory ending in a refusal to even listen to their hit singles any more, let alone play them. But this five-piece never seem to tire of their best tracks, and their infectiously energetic live performance got their loyal middle-aged fans shaking the body parts they forgot they had.
