GRAND DESIGNS: whatever you may think of the food, you can't fault the venue

2:47pm Friday 21st November 2008

JEREMY SMITH enjoys a slice of pizza in the pulpit.

Selfish secret shared...THE BLACK BOY, HEADINGTON, OXFORD

It's rather charming

3:24pm Friday 14th November 2008

GILES SHELDRICK wants to keep all the delights of this city gastro pub to himself.

Oarsome Grub

11:38am Friday 7th November 2008

Restaurants open and close with more regularity than Primark's tills, but bustling away in the background are Oxford's stalwarts, which work hard to stay on top – they’re the Madonnas of the hospitality industry.

STOP PRESS: SAHARA, OXFORD

2:05pm Friday 24th October 2008

As a result of my musings about the fate of this forlorn restaurant/bar in Blue Boar Street, I've since learned that the place has been taken over - today, I believe - by the owner of the Duke of Cambridge, in Little Clarendon Street.

BITE-SIZED REVIEW: Rumblin Tums, A40 near Eynsham

A cooked breakfast, for those not in the know

2:37pm Thursday 23rd October 2008

For a place that serves up what might be described as fast food, Rumblin Tums is somewhat laid back.

SEACOURT BRIDGE INN, WEST WAY, BOTLEY

Mir Space Station - possibly a better bet?

2:42pm Thursday 23rd October 2008

It's always upper case and italicised, white on a black background, featuring the dreaded words ‘Sky Sports’ or ‘Setanta’. It’s the writing on a pub chalkboard (usually an A-frame outside the premises) and it spells trouble.

What I would change about SAHARA, BLUE BOAR STREET, OXFORD

Sahara is thirsting for change

2:23pm Thursday 23rd October 2008

Sahara's website proclaims: “Come along and have a look, we would love to see you.” You bet they would — a place that attracts only three diners in 90 minutes on a Wednesday night is desperate to see anybody.

Wolvercote farmer's market

3:32pm Thursday 16th October 2008

Diddy chairs and the smell of disinfectant — weren't our school days meant to be the best time of our lives?

The Fox, Hyde Road, Denchworth, near Grove 01235 868258

3:31pm Thursday 16th October 2008

YOU'LL have to travel 76 miles before you get a sniff of sea air — to Weston-super-Mare in Somerset, no less — but you can now get fine seafood from Britain and abroad in a quaint, thatched pub in the Vale of White Horse.

Mario's, 103 Cowley Road, 01865 722955

Mario's, 103 Cowley Road, 01865 722955

2:34pm Friday 10th October 2008

With a name like Mario's, a red, white and green sign and rows of Italian football scarves on the walls, this compact restaurant in Cowley Road certainly looks authentic.
