A UNIVERSITY student was 'thanked' by a man after he allegedly raped her in an Oxford churchyard, a jury has heard.

Khaliz Alshimery, 46, is on trial at Oxford Crown Court charged with rape, assault by penetration and three counts of sexual assault – all alleged to have happened on November 19 last year.

The student, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was walking home from a night out when Alshimery reportedly dragged her into St Clement’s churchyard, off Marston Road, and assaulted her.

She claims the defendant then thanked her before allowing her to flee.

Alshimery, who was staying at a Holiday Inn in Blackbird Leys at the time, has denied the offences and told police the student had asked him for £50 for sex and everything that happened was consensual.

Opening the trial on Monday (May 13), prosecutor Edward Lucas said the girl was heading home at about 2.30am when she noticed the defendant on the High Street in Oxford.

After asking for her name and where she was going, the defendant allegedly starting ‘hassling’ the girl, the court heard.

“He was friendly at first,” said Mr Lucas.

“But he wouldn’t leave her alone and she tried to usher him away but he wasn’t having it.

“He began cuddling her and wrapping himself around her and starting kissing her neck and touching her breasts.”

The girl managed to ‘slip away’ from the defendant after a witness stopped to ask if everything was Ok but he reportedly caught up with her and ‘smothered her’.

Mr Lucas continued: "She told to get off but he then forced her into the entrance of the churchyard and pushed her against a concrete block.

“She tried to push him off. She said, ‘No, don’t have sex with me’. It just made him angry.”

The defendant then reportedly assaulted the student before she managed to flee the scene. She could allegedly hear him say ‘thank you’ as she left in tears.

Mr Lucas explained that when the girl got home she had called the police and was ‘crying uncontrollably’.

Forensic examinations were taken and Alshimery’s DNA was found on the student.

He was arrested and interviewed on November 20 and told police the allegations were not true.

“He was to say that the person he met randomly on the High Street had engaged in a consensual sex act with him,” said Mr Lucas.

“He said she forced him. He then said that she asked him for £50 for sex.”

The trial, which is expected to last a week, continues.
