AN elderly man has been accused of sexually abusing two children, one when he was a teenager and the second when he was in his 60s.

Dennis Hawkins, of Saxon Court, Wessex Way, Bicester, is on trial at Oxford Crown Court where a jury has heard he allegedly assaulted a young boy in the 1970s, followed by a young girl in the late 2010s.

The 68-year-old has denied the charges for both of the complainants.

For the first alleged victim, he has been charged with seven counts of indecent assault with a male person between December 1970 and December 1978, two counts of indecency with a child under 14 between the same dates, one count of indecent assault with a male between December 1773 and 1978, and two counts of indecency with a child under 14 between the same dates.

For the second alleged victim, he has been charged with three counts of sexual assault of a child under 13 between December 2016 and December 2018 and one count of assault of a child under 13 by penetration between the same dates.

In a video-recorded interview with police, the first alleged victim, who is now an adult, said that he was about eight-years-old when Hawkins had abused him.

He told police that Hawkins would perform sexual activities against his back as well as touch him inappropriately.

He said: “I was between his legs, near his lap.

"One arm would be on my shoulder or around my rib cage. He was a clever man, he never let me see but I knew.

“Now I know, as an adult. But I didn’t know back then. I would just be spontaneous really.”

The alleged victim also said Hawkins would make him look for a 10p coin in his trousers so the boy could buy sweets.

“He had a big grin on his face and he would go off and get me a 10p, he would say, ‘Go on and get your sweets you good boy’ sort of thing.

“I was pretty scared of him.”

Evidence was also heard from friends of the alleged second victim who claims that Hawkins had taken her virginity.

Her friends told the jury that they and the girl had a sex education lesson at school and afterwards were talking about losing their virginities.

She reportedly said she had already lost hers because Hawkins had reportedly raped her.

Hawkins, who started giving evidence on Thursday (April 25), denies the offences and states they never happened.
